Natural latex is a delicate material that can be damaged by heat, light, oils, incompatible chemicals, sharp objects, metals and improper storage. Please read and follow this guide before wearing, cleaning, polishing, storing or attempting to repair a FocusLatex product.
Product-specific instructions supplied on a product page, label, care card or custom-order confirmation take priority where they are more specific than this general guide.
Before First Use
- Confirm that the product, size, openings, zippers and release method are suitable before fully putting it on.
- Inspect the garment for transit damage, trapped or twisted components, and anything that may obstruct safe use.
- Make sure fingernails and toenails are trimmed and smooth. Remove rings, watches, bracelets, necklaces, piercings and other sharp or rough items that may puncture, scratch or stain latex.
- Do not use a product if you know that you are allergic to natural rubber latex.
- If you have a history of unexplained reactions to rubber products, asthma, serious allergies or suspected latex sensitivity, seek advice from a qualified healthcare professional before use. A small-area contact check cannot rule out latex allergy and must not be used by anyone with a known or suspected serious allergy.
Dressing and Undressing
Latex can tear when force is concentrated at a fingernail, seam, opening or zipper. Damage caused by forced dressing is not necessarily a manufacturing defect.
- Fully open all available zippers before dressing or undressing.
- Use your palms and the pads of your fingers to distribute pressure over a wider area.
- Gradually adjust the garment into position. Do not pull with fingernails, pinch a small area, grip a glued seam, or force a body part through an opening.
- Stop if the garment cannot be put on without excessive force. Recheck the size, orientation, zipper and dressing aid.
- When removing gloves, socks, hoods or other close-fitting pieces, release them gradually rather than pulling from the fingers, toes, trim or seams.
- If a zipper catches latex, hair or skin, stop immediately. Relieve the tension and free the obstruction before moving the zipper again.
The following dressing aids may be used when they are clean, compatible with natural latex and applied in a reasonable amount:
- a dedicated water-based latex dressing aid;
- pure silicone oil or a silicone-based dressing lubricant expressly suitable for latex clothing; or
- unscented talcum powder or a powder specifically intended for latex clothing.
Do not use oil-based personal lubricants, petroleum jelly, mineral oil, body oil or an unverified household product. Do not mix powder with a silicone-coated surface without first cleaning the garment, because the combination may form residue or an uneven finish.
Cleaning Frequency
- As a general rule, clean the garment after each wear.
- Clean it promptly after contact with perspiration, dressing aids, cosmetics or other residue.
- Before long-term storage, the garment must be clean and completely dry on both sides.
- Do not leave a worn or damp garment sealed in a bag or container.
Hand Washing
Hand washing is the recommended method unless product-specific instructions expressly state otherwise.
- Fill a clean basin or bath with cool or lukewarm water. Do not use hot water.
- Add the amount of dedicated latex detergent stated on that product's instructions.
- Wash one garment at a time. Gently move the garment through the water; do not scrub, twist or wring it.
- Turn the garment inside out and clean both sides.
- Rinse thoroughly with clean cool or lukewarm water until detergent and residue have been removed.
Do not use a washing machine, tumble dryer, bleach, chlorine cleaner, fabric softener, ordinary laundry detergent, dishwashing liquid, alcohol, solvent, stain remover, disinfectant or other strong household cleaner unless FocusLatex has confirmed the specific product in writing.
Swimming-pool and hot-tub chemicals, including chlorine and bromine, may weaken or discolour latex. Rinse promptly with clean water after accidental exposure and contact us if a material change appears.
Drying
- Use a soft, clean, lint-free cloth to blot excess water. Do not rub aggressively.
- Allow the garment to dry naturally in a shaded, well-ventilated place.
- Turn the garment inside out as needed so that both sides dry completely.
- Keep it away from direct sunlight, radiators, heaters, hair dryers, irons, heated drying racks and other heat sources.
- Do not tumble dry, wring or leave the garment folded while damp.
Do not polish or store the garment until it is fully dry, including seams, trims, zippers, pockets and enclosed areas.
Polishing and Surface Care
Latex does not naturally have a permanent high-gloss finish. Polishing is primarily for appearance and may also reduce surface sticking when a compatible product is used correctly.
- Apply a dedicated silicone-based latex polish to a clean, dry surface.
- Pure silicone oil or a PDMS-based care product may be used only if it is clean and expressly suitable for natural latex clothing.
- Apply a small, even amount with clean hands or a soft lint-free applicator. Excess product may create streaks, attract dust or affect seams and hardware.
- Test any unfamiliar care product on a small, inconspicuous area first.
- Do not use automotive, furniture, leather, hair, cosmetic or household shine products unless their manufacturer expressly confirms compatibility with natural latex clothing.
Storage
Before storage, clean and completely dry the garment. Apply either a light, even layer of compatible silicone care product or an appropriate latex powder to reduce sticking. Do not combine powder with a silicone-coated surface unless the garment has first been properly cleaned.
- Store in a cool, dry and dark place away from sunlight, heat, moisture and ozone-producing equipment.
- Keep different colours separated, especially light, transparent, metallic and fluorescent colours, because prolonged contact may transfer colour or cause staining.
- Keep latex away from leather, dyed fabrics, printed plastics and other materials that may transfer colour or chemicals.
- Lightweight garments may be placed on a clean, wide-shouldered, non-metal hanger that supports the garment without stretching it.
- Heavy garments and pieces that may distort under their own weight should be stored flat with minimal folding.
- Avoid sharp creases, tight clips, rubber bands and compression under heavy objects.
- Do not use bare metal or wire hangers.
Inspect stored garments periodically. If moisture, sticking, colour transfer or an unusual surface change is found, separate the item and contact FocusLatex before further use.
Substances and Materials to Avoid
Keep latex away from:
- petroleum jelly, mineral oil, grease, body oil and oil-based lubricants;
- perfume, fragranced sprays, alcohol, acetone, solvents, bleach and strong cleaning chemicals;
- copper, brass and unprotected or unknown metals that may cause permanent staining;
- direct sunlight, ultraviolet exposure, high heat and open flame;
- sharp fingernails, jewellery, rough surfaces, hook-and-loop fasteners and animal claws; and
- prolonged direct contact between dark and light latex or other materials that may transfer dye.
Cosmetics, fake tan, sunscreen, deodorant, hair products and some skincare products may contain oils, dyes, alcohol or other incompatible ingredients. Allow compatible products to dry before dressing and prevent unnecessary contact with the latex.
Zippers and Metal Components
- Keep a zipper straight and properly aligned while operating it. Do not pull, twist or force it.
- Hold the garment to reduce tension on the zipper and bonded area.
- If latex or skin becomes caught, stop immediately and release it carefully before continuing.
- After cleaning, thoroughly dry zipper teeth, sliders and metal components.
- Do not apply oil-based lubricant, penetrating oil or chemical rust remover.
- Contact FocusLatex before applying any lubricant or treatment to a zipper or metal component.
Normal wear of a zipper or accessory, damage caused by forcing it, corrosion caused by improper drying, and staining caused by incompatible metal contact may not be manufacturing defects.
Heat, Activity and Physical Condition
Latex clothing can retain heat and moisture and may restrict movement. Wearers must judge whether the product and environment are appropriate for them.
- Stop using the product if you feel overheated, dizzy, faint, short of breath, numb, panicked or otherwise unwell.
- Move to a safe place, remove or release the product promptly and seek assistance where needed.
- Do not use a restrictive product during strenuous activity unless it was specifically designed for that activity and can be removed safely.
- Keep away from open flames, hot surfaces and environments where rapid removal would be difficult.
- Do not rely on FocusLatex clothing as medical, protective, flotation, respiratory or safety equipment.
Natural Rubber Latex Allergy
FocusLatex garments contain natural rubber latex unless a product page expressly states otherwise. Natural rubber latex can cause irritation or an allergic reaction in susceptible people. Reactions may include itching, redness, rash, hives, swelling, eye or nasal symptoms, wheezing, chest tightness or difficulty breathing.
- A person with a known natural rubber latex allergy must not use the product.
- A first-time user without a known allergy may conduct a cautious small-area contact check before extended wear, but this does not prove that the product is safe or exclude a future allergic reaction.
- Stop use immediately if itching, redness, swelling, rash or other discomfort occurs.
- Difficulty breathing, throat or facial swelling, faintness or another severe reaction may be a medical emergency. Remove exposure where this can be done safely and seek emergency medical assistance immediately.
This information is a safety warning, not medical advice or a diagnosis. If you are uncertain about latex allergy or skin compatibility, consult a qualified healthcare professional before purchase or use.
Hoods and Products That May Restrict Breathing, Vision or Movement
Hoods and any product that may cover the face, narrow a breathing opening, restrict vision, restrict movement or delay removal are intended only for purchase and use by adults aged 18 or over.
- Never use such a product alone. A sober, alert adult must remain present and able to assist throughout use.
- Keep the nose, mouth and all intended breathing openings unobstructed at all times.
- Before use, identify and test an immediate release and removal method. The assisting adult must understand it.
- Do not sleep, drive, operate machinery, enter water, or use the product after consuming alcohol, recreational drugs or medication that may impair awareness, breathing, judgement or movement.
- Do not block, reduce, modify or depend solely on small breathing holes.
- Stop immediately if breathing, vision, circulation, communication or movement becomes impaired, or if the wearer becomes distressed or unresponsive.
- Never leave a wearer restrained, unattended or unable to communicate or release the product.
No custom request overrides these safety requirements. FocusLatex may refuse or modify a design that cannot be produced or used with reasonable safety safeguards.
Damage, Seam Separation and Repairs
If the garment tears, punctures, separates at a seam, develops an opening near a zipper, or shows an unusual material change:
- stop using it if continued use may enlarge the damage or create a safety risk;
- take clear photographs or video showing the whole item and the affected area;
- keep the product and relevant packaging; and
- contact support@focuslatex.com with the order number before attempting a repair.
Do not use household glue, tape, heat, solvent or an unapproved patch. Do not cut, dismantle or modify the product without written guidance. FocusLatex may offer care advice or a paid repair after reviewing the product's condition.
Repair, alteration or chlorination performed by the customer or a third party may prevent reliable inspection and is not covered by free after-sales service. This does not exclude any mandatory legal right where the original product was defective and the later work did not cause or worsen the claimed problem.
Chlorination
Professional chlorination is a specialised surface treatment and is different from exposure to household bleach, pool chlorine or other chlorinated cleaners. Do not attempt either process at home.
Unless chlorination was supplied or expressly authorised by FocusLatex for the specific product, third-party chlorination is undertaken at the customer's own risk. It may change surface feel, shine, colour, bonding or repairability and may make subsequent inspection or repair more difficult.
Normal Material Changes
Natural latex changes over time. Depending on colour, thickness, exposure, use and storage, normal changes may include reduced shine, gradual oxidation, colour change, surface tackiness, loss of elasticity and ordinary wear at high-stress areas or hardware.
The following are not automatically evidence of a manufacturing defect:
- the natural smell of latex;
- temporary folds or light creases from packaging;
- minor hand-construction marks or reasonable panel and dimension variation;
- minor screen-to-product or batch-to-batch colour variation;
- small traces of adhesive, powder or internal production markings that do not impair safe use; or
- deterioration caused by incompatible products, heat, sunlight, metal staining, incorrect cleaning, improper storage, excessive stretching, puncture or third-party treatment.
Customer remedies remain subject to our Return, Refund & Cancellation Policy and any mandatory rights under applicable law. Failure to follow this guide affects a claim only to the extent that the failure caused or contributed to the relevant damage or condition.
